Winner’s Roses

Hello Friends.

Strawberry Jude Stamps has a February release of 2 stamp sets:  Watercolor Roses and Don’t Forget Calendar:Numbers.   I was lucky enough to win the Watercolor Roses set on their Facebook Fan Page.  This is a beautiful layered set meant to look like watercolored roses, so the effect is not as realistic as some of their other layered stamps.  Have you seen their Chocolate Chip cookies??? Good enough to eat!

I had this card in mind and started as soon as I got my winnings!  I stamped multiples of each or the 3 sizes of roses.  The large rose was stamped in Catherine Pooler’s ink colors of Tiara, Tiki Torch and Rockin Red.  The smaller ones were Tiara, Tiki Torch and Orange Twist. I touched up the darker colors a bit with Wink of Stella because a bit of sparkle is always good.  After cutting them out, I went to work on the background.

The background was done on watercolor paper, using Ken Oliver’s liquid metals. These are the precious alloys.  A few drops of several colors are put on  paper, then spritzed with water.  I then take a one-inch brush from one  side to the other blending them.  I love how this came out. These pictures are of a different background, but show how I put the drops.  The brush and water does the blending.

The edge was cut with My Favorite Things stitched scallop basic edges using the off-center pointed die.  This panel was taped to a GinaKDesigns heavyweight ivory card base.  I did some leaf stamping on the background with GinaKDesigns Grass Green dye ink.

The stamped and cut flowers were laid out on the background until I was happy with the layout, and applied with scor-tape or foam tape for a layered look.   The sentiment is from the Strawberry Jude Stamps Watercolor Roses.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and I am so very grateful to Strawberry Jude Stamps for holding the drawing on their Facebook Fan Page.

Catch you next time — Mary Kay
