I am very proud to join in the So Suzy Sessions Mother’s Day Blog Hop. The classes at So Susy Sessions are great and we continue to support each other so much along with the amazing support from Suzanne Babb-Moore and her team.
My Mom loved African violets and we would always give her some for Mother’s Day. She had a real green thumb with the plants and they would be blooming for years. My son still has a plant blooming from one of her’s.
So today’s card is a basket of African violets in her honor. For this card I used 2 sets from GinaKDesigns: The violets are from Buds & Vases, and the basket is from Holiday Basket; both designed by Melanie Muenchinger. The sentiment is from GKD Spring Basket. The background, basket and flowers are done on Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor paper using Lyra Aquacolor crayons. I used a piece of a pattern paper from GinaKDesigns Softly Spring pack and mounted on GinaKDesigns Heavy weight White cardstock cut to 8.5 x 5.5 and scored for a side fold card (if using a very heavy weight cardstock, be sure to score multiple times to get a good clean fold).
The background is a slight ombre in pink watercolors cut to 4 x 5.25 inches. After stamping the basket and flower on the watercolor paper (2 sets of the flowers plus a couple extra blooms), I did my watercoloring and then fussy cut them out. There were some cute purple brads in my stash that worked perfectly for the little basket. I did add some gel pen outline to the basket and wink of stella to the flowers for that special sparkle. This card is going to my mom for sure.
I also made some other cards in this style with markers and several other Mother’s Day cards to send off to the Altenew Celebrating Parents Card Drive. Please check that out. Time for me to work on some Father’s Day cards.

I love baskets, I love flowers, I love your card! My mother-in-law always had African violets but, try as I did, I could never keep them alive. She really had the magic touch! I am happy to be a card maker so I can collect stamps of all the flowers that refuse to grow in Florida or that refuse to stay alive for me. Thanks for sharing!

I adore the soft watercolors you used – they set off your stunning basket of African violets beautifully! The gemstone centers are beautiful, as are the brads for the basket handles. Even more, I love the story you shared about your mom and the African violets. It sounds like she will cherish this card.

Such a beautiful basket of African violets and how impressive your colouring! The curved panel, with the sweet hearts on the side, adds extra charm! Your card’s impact is made all the more special because it’s infused with memories and love for your mom. I bet you were smiling and humming (and maybe feeling a bit teary-eyed) as you designed it; touching and heart-warming! My grandma had the magic touch when it came to African violets as well, so your card has struck a chord with me. I think I may go buy an African violet later this week in her honour; thank you for the inspiration!
